This week, we travel back in time 5 years for a post-Memorial Day Neighbor show at Thunder Road featuring Ricky, Lyle, The Dux (set 1), Zack Burwick (set 2), and Mike Miksis.
Strap yourself in for a show filled with deep jams and awesome teases. Move Along Little Jimmy sits in the 2 slot with a high-octane jam, followed shortly thereafter by a trio of “S” tracks that you can’t miss in Somerville Shuffle, Stranger Part of Town (with one of two Allman Bros teases of the night) and Southpaw (the last time played at Thunder Road, and still the longest to date with a jazzy piano jam from Ricky and bass jam from Mike that can’t be missed).
Kicking off set 2 is a sit in from PTF member Cal Kehoe for the first Phish debut of Neighbor’s existence, with a monster Tube -> Sneaking Sally Through The Alley -> Tube featuring the second Allman’s tease. The megajam debut of Canopy follows, with On Your Way Down adding some epic filler before a heady Headrush->Why I Like You caps off the show. Even with no encore (Ricky wanted to “let this one simmer”), the meat of both sets certainly made the post-holiday trek to Thundies worth it!
Memorable moments from this show included a comment from Ricky that “We’re still at it, and not stopping,” an appearance from the “Yo Boys” after Whiskey, and Canopy being renamed Canopy Lake Park only seconds after its debut.
This week brings the number of rarities back to winter 2019 levels, with Sultans of Swing (#7 of 10), Southpaw (#4 of 6), Tube (#1 of 1), Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley (#2 of 3), and On Your Way Down (#6 of 14) making up nearly half of the two set show.
This also marks the first show with a significant part of the show released on SBD, with set 1 inclusions of Move Along Little Jimmy, Somerville Shuffle, and Stranger Part of Town on Rick’s Picks #1, along with set 2 inclusions of Tube -> Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley -> Tube on Rick’s Picks #3 and On Your Way Down on Rick’s Picks #4.
