This week, Dan fulfills Ricky’s wish from the previous week and joins the band for the first time for the 11th Neighbor show of the Thunder Road Residency, taking place 5 years ago today featuring Ricky, Lyle, The Dux, and Mike Miksis.
In addition to Dan’s special guest appearance, we also saw Ira Kittrell join the band on Harmonica for Neighbor Neighbor. It was also the first full show captured in audio and video by Patrick Hayden (last week only had Headrush captured), with the entire first set through Neighbor Neighbor being available on Youtube (links below). Vin Pugliese (aka Peter Grigio of Peter Grigio and the White Grapes) joined the band on vocals for Kenny Rogers’ The Gambler, being introduced as Dale Earnhardt Jr.
The band also wished the bands original drummer, Zack Burwick, a happy birthday!
As far as the show itself was concerned, Somerville Shuffle and Headrush -> Northbound and Brakeless highlighted the first set, while Buddy Guy’s Midnight Train (ft. Dan on the bass), Little Jimmy, and Spanish Moon highlighted the second set.
Buddy Guy’s Midnight Train (#1 of 1) and Kenny Roger’s The Gambler (#1 of 1) debuted in this week’s show. Neighbor Neighbor (#2 of 2) and Northbound and Brakeless (#3 of 4) were the two other songs to have taken the stage less than 15 times in Neighbor history.
