This Tuesday, thanks to the leap year, we travel back in time to a Tuesday night 5 years ago at Thunder Road for a very special Neighbor show featuring Ricky, Lyle, Mike Miksis and Zack Burwick.
This show had two very memorable moments. First, the show was dedicated to Ira and Lisa Kittrell’s 25th anniversary, meaning that tonight will roughly celebrate their 30th anniversary. Second, almost as if to nod to last week’s 5-year residency show at Soundcheck (and certainly a nod to why that theme happened), Ricky changed the chorus (and many of the lyrics) of Spanish Moon to end with “the sparkles will, down at the Thundies Moon.”
In addition to having some truly special moments, this show also is the third instance where more “rarities” were played than not. Working’ Man’s Blues (1 of 6), Everywhere (1 of 12), Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More (1 of 4), Sultans of Swing (1 of 10), Two Trains (1 of 1), All Apologies (1 of 12), Take Me Home (1 of 2), and Ophelia (1 of 4) are the eight rarities that have seen the stage less than 15 times ever.
Notable jams included the aforementioned Spanish Moon, a monster Two Trains -> All Applogies -> Two Trains -> All Apologies, Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More, and a lengthy Move Along Little Jimmy.
There were a number of debuts made on this date, with the original Take Me Home (1 of 2) and the covers Working Man’s Blues (Merle Haggard) and Two Trains (Little Feat) taking the stage.
