***Over the next few days, I am backfilling these older posts from earlier in the year in order to get caught up to the present. This was originally published on January 29, 2024***
This week, we travel back in time to the second Neighbor show at Thunder Road, which took place 5 years ago today featuring Ricky, Lyle, Zack Burwick, and Mike Miksis. The band dedicated this show to “everything but the internet.”
This show only has a recording for the first set, and has no known setlist for the second set. The only indication from the recording that there is a second set is that Ricky ends Sultans of Swing by saying “we’ll be right back.” According to showgoers, there was a second set, but no recording or setlist is known.
Memorable moments from this show included a shoutout to Soul Slice Pizza, Ricky requesting to turn down the lights because “Lyle likes to hide in the shadows,” and Ricky letting us know that Sultans of Swing was his “first song ever” and dedicating it to Peter Grigio (of Peter Grigio and the White Grapes fame).
Despite the limited setlist, there were still many rarities: Ophelia (1 of 4), Stand Back (1 of 2), Southpaw (1 of 7), I Tried (1 of 12), and Sultans of Swing (1 of 10). This also marks the first show where rarities made up over 50% of the setlist (5 of 7).
Notable jams included a fiery Stand Back, a Riftalicious I Tried (the longest ever as of Jan. 29, 2024), and a stretched-out Skin it Back.
Debuts included two covers, Stand Back (The Allman Brothers Band) and Sultans of Swing (Dire Straits).
