Travel Back in Time: February 19, 2019

***Over the next few days, I am backfilling these older posts from earlier in the year in order to get caught up to the present. This was originally published on February 19, 2024***

This week, we travel back in time to Thunder Road for the fourth Neighbor show of the Thunder Road Residency, taking place 5 years ago today featuring Ricky, Lyle, Zack Burwick, and Mike Miksis. I believe this is the last show prior to the creation of this Facebook group!

Memorable moments from this show included a big shoutout to Sonya on her birthday and a crowd-sung Happy Birthday led by Ira Kittrell, a note from Ricky that “unlike most asshole bands, we take requests” (tag Ricky with your requests below?), and a revision of Ricky’s earlier note regarding the location of the Stranger Part of Town (it is, in fact, Thunder Road. Sorry Worcester and Albany!).

Like much of the residency thus far, this show is jammed packed full of rarities, including Taxman (1 of 13, after last weekend [thank you!!]), All Apologies (1 of 12), Sultans of Swing (1 of 10), The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down (1 of 1), 10 Years Behind (1 of 12), Everywhere (1 of 12), Also Sprach Zarathustra/2001 (1 of 1), and I Tried (1 of 13, after last weekend). This marks the second time that a show has been comprised of mostly rarities (8 of 15 songs played).

Notable jams included a loaded Taxman-All Apologies-Sultans of Swing sandwich, a Lyle-tastic Love Like Stone, a monster Jimmy with a rocking Miksis bass solo, and a 20 (yes, 20) minute long exploratory 2001.

Debuts included 10 Years Behind and Everywhere as original tunes, and covers of The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down (The Band), and Also Sprach Zarathustra/2001 (Richard Strauss).

The next month marks the longest drought of the Thunder road residency—a whole month. Luckily, nobody needs to “travel back in time” for the next 5 weeks, since the return of Tuesdays starts tomorrow! Have a great time, everyone! See you all on March 19th!
